Один из вопросов, как нам рассказывает «Круг Силы | Комлинк», наиболее часто задаваемых Тимоти Зану, – знал ли он, что Мару Джейд убьют в “Наследии Силы”? Каждый раз писатель терпеливо отвечает, что нет, не знал, но сегодняшний его комментарий позволяет взглянуть на проблему под другим углом.

После традиционной ремарки о том, что права на всех персонажей принаждежат “Лукасфильму” и любой автор может делать с ними что угодно, если это одобрено LFL, Зан сказал такое:

“Как мне говорили, в эру Bantam была стандартная процедура: один автор консультировался с другим, прежде чем убить или покалечить его персонажа. (С моими героями такого не происходило, поэтому лично я на своем опыте с таким не сталкивался). Очевидно, Del Rey работает по другому протоколу.

Проблема не в том, что трудно об этом сообщить, а в том, насколько это желательно. В случае с Марой, насколько я знаю, они боялись, что информация просочится наружу, и поэтому держали ее в строгом секрете, сообщая только тем, кому нужно знать. (Не знаю, были ли такие же мысли насчет Пеллеона и Джейсена).

С другой стороны, нельзя отрицать, что процесс редактирования текстов бывает лихорадочным, особенно когда так много книг выходят одна за другой. Оплошности случаются. Как я понимаю, только за несколько недель до выхода “Вектора-Прим” кто-то вдруг подумал о том, не сказать ли Питеру Мэйхью, что Чубакку убьют. Так что уверяю вас: неприятности происходят, но не только со мной.”

Отвечая на предположение о том, что М. Стэкпол специально отправил в изгнание Коррана Хорна в своей второй книге серии НОД, чтобы он не попал в недобрые руки, сам Стэкпол сказал:

“[…] Судьба Коррана в конце “Руин” не была попыткой уберечь его ни от чьих рук. Корран нуждался в самокритическом анализе своих действий, этим он и занялся. Такое решение было принято потому, что оно было логичным в рамках истории.
